“B-be bored,” he grinned crookedly. “W-work hard t-to n-not n-eed this place anymore.” He looked up at the white building. “I g-get t-to go home soon…” he added, a little wistfully.

“How soon?” she wondered. She still couldn’t believe he’d made such a good recovery so far. It was literally a miracle. And the more that she thought about it, the more she was glad that she didn’t have to deal with the possibility of him never making it out of that hospital, like she had thought might happen when she first heard about his injury.

"A w-week. M-maybe t-two. M-mom’s gonna h-have to st-tay w-with me for a wh-while, though. Like… m-months, prob-ab-ly." He shook his head. "It’s l-like I’m a b-baby again."

She shrugged, taking a moment to think about how she wanted to answer. “I guess so. I’m kind of torn. I’m going to miss a lot of things about Vegas, including Ariel. But the other part of me wants to just be home again.”

He nodded as he shuffled slowly down the hall, looking forward to when he could just walk normally again. And talk normally. He was definitely going to have to work hard to be in better condition when he saw her again.

“I-I wwwould,” he agreed.

The made their way slowly outside to a little grassy area where employees often ate their lunch. There were a few trees and planters with flowers growing in them.

“So,” she said casually, taking a seat on one of the benches nearby, “what are you going to do when I leave? You won’t have me to rely on as a daily visitor anymore.”

She ducked her head, glad for once that her hair was down that day, as it did a fairly good job of hiding her blush, which had gotten significantly deeper at his comment. “We should probably get moving if we want to actually go walking,” she said, sticking her hands into her pockets as she looked up at him finally. “Especially at the pace you walk right now,” she added, teasing him.

He snorted a laugh. “Y-you’ll s-see. By the t-time y-you get back, I-I’ll be dancccing again.”

He shuffled towards the hall, keeping within Belle range. “Are y-you looking f-forward t-to get-ting bac-k to w-work?”

“W-well… you do,” he said, flashing a grin. “N-not as pretty as that f-firsst nigh-t, b-but… I think I wwwas in sh-shock.”

He ignored the walker, both to be macho about how he did this and for an excuse to lean on her should he need to lean on anything at all.

“Course n-not,” he grinned gently. “W-wanna go f-for a w-walk?

 J-just ar-round the grrrounds.”

“Sure, that sounds fine.” Belle stood up from where she had been sitting on his chair. Holding out a hand, she waited to see if he would accept her help, or if he would try to get up on his own.

Jim did try on his own, but it wasn’t long before, with a sigh and making a face, he took her hand and let her help him up. “Thanks,” he said softly, a slight smile pulling at his lips.

“H-have I told y-you how pretty y-you look t-oday?”

Belle waited until she was sure he was steady on his feet before letting go of his hand, instead moving the walker closer for him to lean on if he needed it. She couldn’t help but blush a little at his compliment. “Not that I know of,” she said, her voice slightly more quiet than usual. She wasn’t quite sure what else to say to that.

"W-well… you do," he said, flashing a grin. "N-not as pretty as that f-firsst nigh-t, b-but… I think I wwwas in sh-shock."

He couldn’t help but point out the obvious to her. “Y-you’re not gonna mmmiss Ariel?”

Belle shook her head. “Oh, no. I am going to, I’m sure of it.” She was still having a hard time coming to grips with the fact that she wasn’t going to have her sister right there all the time anymore.

“Well,” he answered, eyes dropping to his lap, “I-I’ll m-miss you.” His cheeks flushed, and he didn’t look up. This was hard enough without her acting like it was no big deal. It was a huge deal, at least to him.

“I know,” she said softly, getting up from her chair only to move to the arm of his. “But I think you should stop thinking about it so much. I haven’t even left yet. Do you really want to spend the whole time I’m here sighing about how much you’ll miss me?”
